Recently, Libra and I participated in an Open House at Hearts and Horses celebrating its status as a Premier Accredited Facility through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH). PATH outlines 114 standards that demonstrate how well therapeutic riding centers operate within industry best practices and employ top safety standards. Hearts and Horses scored 100 percent on every standard!
Wounded Warrior Project: Equine Assisted Therapy for Veterans
Libra and I, along with Tamara Merrit and the wonderful horses and volunteer staff at Hearts and Horses, help serve veterans through the Wounded Warrior Project.
We use equine assisted therapy to help returning service members make the courageous journey out of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), into post traumatic growth.
In many ways, the hardest battle veterans fight is the one of reintegrating themselves into civilian society. We use a combination of horseback and off horseback exercises, as well as principles of classical horsemanship, to help veterans transform pain and suffering into wisdom and joy.
This work is most powerful when complimented by Brainspotting, which gently clears the brain and body of the symptoms of trauma.
